ABOUT ME
Born and raised in the Greater Boston area by her Filipino immigrant family, Janette has always deeply cherished the Arts in all its forms. Growing up in fact, her father encouraged her to express herself artistically, with Janette branching out to a variety of different art forms, whether in the performing arts (guitar, clarinet), or the visual (clay, pastels, acrylics, sculpture).
She currently holds a BA in Studio Art & Anthropology from the University of Massachusetts Boston where she studied under the tutelage of Wilfredo Chiesa, Liz Marran, and Anne Torke. It’s while at UMass Boston, that Janette fostered an even deeper appreciation and fondness for the Arts and further strengthened her resolve to continue in that sphere.
Despite being artistically inclined, Janette’s strongest skill sets are in community building and event planning. Janette was very heavily involved with the creative community in the Berkshires of Western Massachusetts. While working at the Berkshire Cultural Resource Center, Janette was planning and coordinating exhibits for the likes of Ibrahim Quraishi, Kahn & Selesnick, Ryder Cooley, and Nick Vaughan & Jake Margolin. Additionally, she has experience with festival and concert planning by way of DownStreet Art and MCLA Presents.
Though she has stepped back from serving full time for the art collective that she founded, Creatives of Color BOSTON with her friend, Tammi Jean Fedestin, Janette continues to support from an advisory capacity.
